What's at stake in the US election: Supreme Court
One of the most important decisions for the next president is shaping the future of the Supreme Court. With several justices of retirement age, the next president could have outsized impact.
Currently there's one open spot on the nine-seat court. President Obama has nominated Judge Merrick Garland to fill the chair, but Congress has refused to consider the nomination. It's possible that Judge Garland will be approved before Obama leaves office in January, but pundits on both sides of the aisle say the choice could ultimately come down to whomever wins the election in November.
