How to build a woodland theatre set

Creating a set for the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods, at the Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park, was quite a challenge.

Designers had to complement the natural surroundings of the park while taking into account the practicalities of the production.

Director Timothy Sheader and Co-Director Liam Steel take us on to the impressive steel construction to explain how the set works for the show and the actors.

Into the Woods is a fairytale based on the tales from the Brothers Grimm. This story gives popular characters such as Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel a dark and humorous twist.
