How to create a work of art from ice

It's not often you see artists taking a chainsaw to their work of art.

But that is exactly how a handful of skilled artists have been creating stunning sculptures from blocks of ice.

The creations were part of the London Ice Sculpting Festival which saw competitors from UK, Netherlands, France, Africa, Portugal and Hungary carve up two 2m tall blocks of ice.

Their designs were based on the theme 'Pedal Power' inspired by Boris Johnson's cycle hire scheme launched in the capital last year.

Sculptor Natalie Staniforth, from the UK team, created a futuristic tricycle which could be used on ice.

She explained how she transformed the ice into a work of art and how the UK weather caused problems for the artists.
