Shadow culture secretary: 'This is a bleak day for arts and culture'
The shadow culture secretary has said this is "a bleak day for arts and culture" as hundreds of arts groups see their applications for grants turned down due to cuts in government funding.
More than 200 organisations that previously received regular funding have missed out on grants from Arts Council England, which had its budget cut by £100m in October's spending review.
Ivan Lewis said the cuts would have serious consequences for young people, who rely on art and culture to "improve their education and change the course of their lives".
