Paris museum buys Bronte script

A tiny manuscript by Charlotte Bronte has been sold to a French museum for £690,850, dashing hopes it could find a new home in the UK.

Andrew McCarthy, director of Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth, West Yorkshire, said he was "very disappointed" with the outcome.

"Obviously we came here very excited about the prospect of bringing this manuscript back to Haworth. But, unfortunately the outcome is clearly not one that we would have hoped for."

However, Mr McCarthy said that he was consolidated by the fact the manuscript would be going to a museum.

"Our greatest fear was that it would go to a private collector and be lost for decades again as it has been."
