Dame Judi Dench 'sorry' over Oscars

Dame Judi Dench has said she is "sorry" over Skyfall not being recognised in the top Oscar categories following Thursday's nominations.

Prior to the nominations it had been suggested that Skyfall might become the first Bond film to win a best picture nod, but the film was not shortlisted in any of the major categories despite Bafta nominations for Dame Judi Dench and Javier Bardem earlier this week.

"That's a great, great pity," Dame Judi told BBC Radio 4. "I thought Sam Mendes directed it absolutely beautifully. I thought it was a wonderful story."
