Punk fashion from chaos to couture at New York's Met

The punks of the 1970s probably never thought their T-shirts, bondage trousers and studded leather jackets would be on display in one of the world's most famous art museums.

But that is exactly what has happened with a new exhibition at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Punk: Chaos to Couture focuses on the influence of punk on high fashion, mixing original clothing from the punk era with contemporary designs inspired by the subculture's rebellious aesthetic.

That independent spirit has now been absorbed into the mainstream, as the BBC's Laura Trevelyan learned when she spoke to curator Andrew Bolton and the designer Zandra Rhodes.
