Matthew Rhys: Bond, Mr Darcy and Doctor Who

Welsh actor Matthew Rhys has revealed he almost auditioned to play James Bond.

The star of The Americans is already lined up to play Mr Darcy in Death Comes to Pemberley.

But despite his ambitions to be a future Bond he has already ruled himself out of the race to become the next Doctor after Matt Smith.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live's Richard Bacon, the Welsh star said: "I don't think I could pull off Doctor Who - especially after what Matt has done with it."
