Wallander author Henning Mankell on lure of Africa

The Swedish author of the Kurt Wallander novels has spoken of his fascination with Africa.

Henning Mankell's new novel, A Treacherous Paradise, follows a young woman's journey from Sweden to Mozambique, and her experiences running a brothel there.

The author himself divides his time between Sweden and Mozambique.

He told Front Row's Mark Lawson that he was drawn to Africa 40 years ago because, as a young writer, he "needed to see the world and the human condition from outside of European egocentricity."
