Toni Morrison: 'Maya Angelou was generous to a fault'

Author Toni Morrison has said her friend Maya Angelou, who has passed away, "launched African-American women writing in the United States".

Angelou made her name with the memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which charted a childhood of oppression and abuse in the Deep South in the 1930s.

Speaking at the Hay Festival, Morrison also said Angleou was a "real original, there is no duplicate".
