Folkestone Gold: Art festival £10k beach treasure hunt

More than 150 people descended on Folkestone beach to dig for gold after a German artist Michael Sailstofer, announced he had buried 30 bars of gold worth £10,000 under the sand

It is part of the of the Folkestone Triennial - a three month art festival which promotes public art installations across the town and organisers have said prospectors can keep any gold they find.

The work, named, 'Folkestone Digs' was commissioned to change perceptions of public art

The event runs from 30 August to 2 November, will also feature work by Yoko Ono.
