Can art and artist ever be separated?
In light of the decision by a cable TV station to pull Bill Cosby's 1980s sitcom from its schedule following allegations of sexual assault against the actor - which his lawyers refute - the BBC's arts editor Will Gompertz asks if can we judge an artwork purely on its own merits - be it a film, painting, play or sitcom - or do we inevitably take its creator's character into account?
