Herring: Comedy should tackle mental health issues
Comedians should tackle issues such as depression as there is no subject that is beyond being joked about, Richard Herring has told Victoria Derbyshire.
The comedian, who has previously spoken about suffering from depression, said people should discuss such issues without feeling embarrassed.
It was during an interview for Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast in 2013 that Stephen Fry revealed he had attempted suicide while filming abroad.
Fry, who has bipolar disorder, said it was the first time he had said in public that he was "not always happy".
Herring said it was because the podcast recordings were relaxed and guests talked for a long time that in a "heart-dropping moment" Fry felt comfortable enough to open up.
