Bake Off: Richard Osman says replacing Mel and Sue will be 'hard work'

Pointless presenter Richard Osman says Channel 4 could struggle to replace Mel and Sue as presenters on the Great British Bake Off.

"Changing presenters is difficult, they've got some hard work to do," he told Chris Evans on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

He added that the BBC could easily launch a rival show, especially if the other presenters jumped ship.

"If Paul and Mary don't go, I'd be shocked beyond words if they didn't do a new big show on BBC One, and I imagine Mel and Sue would join them."

Osman, who is creative director at TV production company Endemol, which makes Big Brother, defended Bake Off's creators for taking the show to Channel 4.

"At some point the public will go off this show," he said. "They've got to try and monetise what they've got. So I sympathise utterly with them."
