Adeel Akhtar is the first non-white male to win a Bafta for best actor

Adeel Akhtar tells 5 live's Phil Williams in his first broadcast interview after winning the Bafta for best actor there have been "really good steps towards" diversity.

The actor who won his award for the BBC Drama Murdered by My Father believes "the real change will come in people's minds when it's not an issue".

Akhtar, who is of Pakistani and Kenyan Muslim parentage, described how he almost had a "cry on stage" when he collected the award.

He said: "I felt myself going a little bit."
