America Ferrera: ‘We are still just fighting to be visible’
Actress America Ferrera made headlines this summer after her role in the Hollywood blockbuster Barbie - where she delivered an impassioned monologue about the societal pressures women face that resonated with women around the world.
Whether she's on a film set or on a stage at a political rally, actress, producer and soon-to-be feature film director Ferrera has built a career fighting against the labels that everybody told her would hold her back. She is an icon for many Latinas in the US and she has been named as one of the BBC's 100 Women for 2023.
She sat down for an exclusive interview with BBC 100 Women to talk about the need to create better spaces for women - and her experience growing up in a family of immigrants.
Interview by Beatriz de la Pava. Produced by Laura García and Valeria Perasso. Filmed by Andrew Blum and Andrew Carey. Edited by Laura García.
