Pill could prevent heart failure in thousands of people

A pill that costs less than £1.50 a day could save thousands of lives in the UK each year by preventing heart failure, medical trials suggest.

More than 6,500 people in 37 countries who were already being treated for heart failure issues were given the drug ivabradine.

During the course of the study, their risk of death from heart failure dropped by 26% - equivalent to 10,000 people per year in the UK.
