Snow adds to NHS winter pressure

The weather is having a noticeable effect on one vital part of the health service. Supplies of blood are dwindling and donors are asked to make a special effort to come forward.

Some Trusts are appealing for nursing staff to volunteer for extra work to cover for colleagues who cannot travel. Some non urgent operations are being postponed.
