BMA leader says NHS reform is 'very dangerous'

Doctors are to discuss hardening their stance on the overhaul of the NHS in England in an emergency meeting of the British Medical Association - the first of its kind in nearly 20 years.

The meeting was called by the BMA leadership after anger from the grassroots about the plans which will see increased competition in the NHS.

To date, the union has effectively acted as a critical friend. But a series of highly critical motions have been proposed.

One even calls for the resignation of Health Secretary Andrew Lansley.

BMA leader Dr Hamish Meldrum said doctors were worried about the "very dangerous" plans. He spoke to BBC Health Correspondent, Branwen Jeffreys.
