GP: NHS must adapt in order to sustain quality service

More than 50 GPs involved in new clinical commissioning groups have issued a warning that the NHS in England may be "in peril" if government changes are derailed.

In a letter to the Daily Telegraph, the doctors say that opposition to the changes by the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Nurses is not representative of GPs who are already managing local budgets and buying health services for patients.

One of the GPs who signed that letter is Dr Shane Gordon, who heads a Clinical Commissioning Group in Essex.

He also represents the NHS Alliance organisation which helped coordinate the letter.
