Diabetes treatment costs warning

Diabetes could cost the NHS some £16.8bn a year, more than a sixth of its entire budget, by 2035, according to a report.

Figures published in the journal Diabetic Medicine predict the number of people with the condition could double over the next 25 years.

Meanwhile as much as 80% of the current £9.8bn annual diabetes bill incurred by the NHS goes on treating complications.
