NHS director: PIP implants 'no risk to human health'

A new report into the PIP breast implants has concluded that they have twice the rupture rate of other implants but that the silicone used is not likely to cause harm.

The review, led by Prof Sir Bruce Keogh, the NHS Medical Director, found that although the implants were made with unauthorised silicone filler the material is not toxic or carcinogenic.

Professor Keogh told the BBC the NHS would look after people who cannot get help from their private providers. He recommended women with the implants to consult their GP.
