Physiotherapists could get prescription power in England

Physiotherapists and podiatrists in England could become the first in the world to be able to issue prescriptions.

Government plans, expected to be approved by Parliament, would allow them to prescribe medication like painkillers, without referring patients back to their GPs.

It is hoped the move will help patients with long-term illnesses or chronic pain get treatment more quickly.
