HIV treatment: WHO introduce new advice to prevent deaths from AIDS

The World Health Organisation is introducing new guidelines about the treatment of HIV in the developing world which it says could help prevent millions of people from dying of AIDS.

It is recommending that patients start medication at a much earlier stage of the disease when the immune system is still strong.

The advice is being launched at an international AIDS conference in Malaysia.

Paul Ward, deputy chief executive at the UK's Terrence Higgins Trust, said there was no reason why anyone should die from HIV.
