Billion pound project to simulate the brain

The Human Brain Project is a ten year, billion pound project which aims to simulate the human brain in a supercomputer.

It is bringing together scientists from 135 institutions, mostly across Europe and is headed by Prof Henry Markram from EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), in Switzerland.

Prof Markram spoke to the BBC about what he hopes the project will achieve in the next decade.
