Rise in NHS foundations trusts with deficits

An increasing number of NHS foundation trusts are in financial trouble according to new figures.

A study by the regulator Monitor found that more than a quarter of the 147 trusts had a deficit, almost twice as many as last year.

It also found that waiting lists had risen significantly, but it said the majority of accident and emergency departments were coping well.
