Leeds General Infirmary: Heart operations unit let down relatives

A report has confirmed that the centre is safe but has revealed how 16 families were shown a lack of compassion and care in the way they were treated at Leeds General Infirmary.

Operations were suspended for more than a week after concerns about death rates but now the NHS in England says new standards are needed to ensure families are shown respect and understanding.

Michelle Elliot's daughter Jessica was a patient at the Leeds heart centre and says her family was let down by the unit.

Mike Bewick, Deputy Medical Director for NHS England, said lessons have been learned.
