Cancer Research: 'Striking progress' in life expectancy

New research suggesting 50% of cancer sufferers now live for more than 10 years after their diagnosis shows the great progress being made in the field, Cancer Research UK's chief executive has said.

Harpal Kumar told the Today programme that he now wanted to see the 10-year survival hit 75% in the next 20 years.

Mr Kumar also pointed towards the necessity for more research to be focused on treating pancreatic and lung cancer, which both have low 10-year survival rates at 1% and 5% respectively.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday 29 April.
