Weight loss surgery 'not an easy option' says type 2 diabetes sufferer

Hundreds of thousands more people could be offered gastric bypasses and other weight loss surgery on the NHS in order to tackle type 2 diabetes.

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is considering offering the operations to people with a body mass index of between 30 and 35.

The threshold is currently at least 35.

Caroline Merricks, who has type 2 diabetes, said weight loss surgery was not an ''easy option'' but a step towards preventing worse health problems in the future.
