Ebola 'requires rapid international response'

The head of the United Nations mission to combat Ebola has called for a "rapid and very strong response" from the international community "to get the disease under control".

Speaking from Liberia on the Today programme, Anthony Banbury commented on the challenges in tackling Ebola in Africa.

"The way the disease is spread throughout the communities is so complex we now need a very massive international response that combines health interventions, big logistics as well as mass community mobilisation," he explained.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Thursday 2 October.
