Medication text alert service 'could save millions'

A text messaging service to remind patients to take the medicines they have been prescribed could save "hundreds of millions of pounds" from non-adherence and preventable illnesses, researchers say.

A test scheme, which involved heart patients, cut the numbers who forgot or just stopped taking their pills.

Professor David Wald, who led the research, said the cost for sending the messages was "no more than £3 per patient".
