Cost of care: A day in the life of a care home

More than 400,000 older people in the UK live in care homes. Some pay for the place themselves, others get help from their local council.

But what is life like in them? Eastlake care home in Surrey is typical of the modern care home.

Housed in a purpose-built block, the home cares for 50 residents with a variety of levels of need.

Some have late-stage dementia, some are terminally-ill with cancer while others have mobility issues or sight problems.

BBC News spent a day to find out what happens.
