Paper test spots counterfeit drugs

Fake and substandard medicines kill an estimated million people a year. It can be hard to know if a drug is genuine or not, because counterfeit medicines can look identical to the real thing.

But a new paper-based drug tester being trialled in Kenya, which checks that the medicine contains the ingredients it is supposed to, could be the answer.

The low cost simple test will allow patients to verify the quality and authenticity of drugs before they buy them.
