New safer Down's Syndrome test to be assessed for NHS use

A new test for Down's Syndrome that reduces the risk of miscarriage is being assessed to see if it should be available on the NHS.

It is claimed that the blood test has a 99% accuracy rate.

This means fewer women will have to be referred for an amniocentesis, in which fluid is taken from the womb, a higher risk procedure.

Sangita Myska reports.
