'Cervical cancer can affect all women, not just the young'
Dr Sue Sherman, who is the lead author of a British Medical Journal report on cervical cancer, explains why the disease can affect all women.
There is a perception that cervical cancer is a young woman's disease, but half of deaths occur in women over 65, the report says.
It argues that the age limit for cervical screening should be raised to 70 and older women should be targeted in health campaigns.
Dr Sherman told BBC Breakfast that the UK screening programme currently saves 4,500 lives a year but that "there is more that we can do".
