NHS needs 'to look after its own staff as well as patients'

The NHS has not done "as good a job" caring for its staff, as it has for patients, according to the head of NHS England.

Chief executive Simon Stevens said the NHS needed to "look after its own" in order to become "a role model for the healthier country we want to see".

Mr Stevens has announced a £5m plan for cutting the NHS bill for staff sickness, which currently stands at £2.4bn-a-year.

It includes exercise classes and serving healthy food.
