Nigeria close to eradicating polio
Polio, one of the world's most feared diseases, has moved a step nearer eradication with Nigeria going more than a year without any cases.
The World Health Organization will remove it from the list of endemic countries, meaning transmission of the disease there has been stopped.
Thirty years ago children in a 125 countries were affected by the virus, spread by poor sanitation and contaminated water.
The fight against polio is one of the success stories of the Millennium Development Goals, aimed at improving the lives of the world's poorest people.
