Cathedral to science opens for business
The first of more than 1,200 biomedical scientists have moved into the new £650 million Francis Crick Institute in central London.
The new research centre is the largest biomedical institute in Europe.
It will explore fundamental science questions around diseases like cancer, stroke, infections and neurodegenerative conditions in order to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat them.
The Crick has been established through the collaboration of six founding partners: the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King's College London.
