Covid-19: 'SA virus variant not a dominant issue at present'

England's deputy chief medical officer has said that the South Africa coronavirus variant is "unlikely to take over in the next few months".

Speaking to the BBC, Prof Jonathan Van-Tam used an analogy likening the growth of the strain to adding a small amount of cold water to a hot bath.

He said the variant first identified in Kent accounted for more than 90% of cases.
