How girl condemned mother as witch

An eyewitness account about the infamous Pendle witch trial in Lancashire in 1612 by clerk of the court, Thomas Potts is read by poet Simon Armitage.

The crucial witness was a nine-year-old beggar girl, Jennet Device who gave testimony that led to the execution of her sister Alizon, her mother and all the other members of her own family.

Poet Simon Armitage presents The Pendle Witch Child on BBC Four, 17 August 21:00 BST.
