Close-up: Nepal's love for Bryan Adams hit Summer of '69

Bryan Adams's song Summer of '69 was a hit all around the world when it was released in 1985, but perhaps nowhere does the song have a more dedicated or surprising following than in Nepal, reports Joanna Jolly.

The Canadian rocker's love letter to a teenage summer is played by most of the bands performing in the bars of Kathmandu's Thamel district, and always gets a warm reception.

Defining precisely what it is that speaks to a young Nepali audience, however, is not so easy.

The Close-up series focuses on aspects of life in countries and cities around the world. What may seem ordinary and familiar to the people who live there can be surprising to those who do not.
