Classical ballet, far from home
Classically trained dancer Irina Roizin long harboured dreams of opening her own ballet school.
Ms Roizin emigrated to the US from the Soviet Union in 1976, settling with her family into Brooklyn's heavily Russian Brighton Beach neighbourhood.
In 1988, inspired in part by a visit from a legendary Russian dancer, Ms Roizin accomplished her goal. Today Brighton Ballet Theater is one of the largest schools of classical Russian ballet in the country.
Ms Roizin says she is keeping the Russian Vaganova classical ballet tradition alive, teaching it to Brooklyn children who themselves hail from all over the world.
"My dream came true," Ms Roizin says.
