The American who built Africa's field of dreams

Baseball may be known as the American pastime but the interntational rosters were hard to miss at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

This year a team from Africa was competing for the first time. The side from Uganda made it this far in large part due to retired American businessman Richard Stanley.

A retired chemical engineer, Mr Stanley has devoted his money and time to developing the sport in the country. Twenty miles west of Kampala, he has built a complex containing all three of Uganda's only baseball fields.

The team was eliminated this week after losing their two games. But as Mr Stanley, the US co-ordinator for Ugandan Little League, tells the BBC, the future looks bright for baseball in Africa.
