Can jellyfish venom help humans?

Simon Reeve travels to Weipa in Queensland where he meets a scientist who studies some of the most lethal creatures on the planet.

As part of the Stinger Research Unit, Dr Jamie Seymour chases box jellyfish which move as fast as Olympic swimmers and can kill an adult who comes into contact with their two metre-long tentacles.

He is convinced their venom could be enormously useful for medical research and drug companies are helping to fund his work.

Dr Seymour says: "The chances of finding a novel compound in here that could save people's lives is enormous. If there wasn't, pharmaceutical companies would not be going down this track, trust me."
