Challenge Detroit: Why US talent is moving to Motown

The US city of Detroit was once home to more than 1.5 million people. After decades of economic decline, however, Motor City's population has fallen by around 60%.

Vast tracts of the metropolitan area have been abandoned, creating a vicious cycle, as urban blight drives away even more residents and businesses.

The city may be drowning in debt and facing bankruptcy, but there are reasons for optimism.

The latest Census data shows the rate of population loss is slowing. And a series of initiatives led by the private and voluntary sectors are making a difference.

Challenge Detroit has given incentives to 30 innovative thinkers from around the US - some who are Detroit natives - to live and work in the city. They also work one day a week on community projects.

The BBC's Matt Danzico spent the day with some of the people hoping to transform Detroit's fortunes.
