Meeting my Yanomami uncle

In July 2011, David Good travelled up the Orinoco River to a remote part of the Venezuelan Amazon in search of his mother Yarima.

His father, the anthropologist Kenneth Good, had married Yarima 35 years earlier while he was studying the Yanomami tribe.

The couple had moved to the US, but Yarima found it impossible to live in New Jersey and had returned to the Amazon.

David was reunited with his mother and his uncle (wrongly identified here as his grandfather).

His uncle told David that he should identify himself as being from their village, Irokaiteri.

He also told him that a Yanomami name for David came for him in a dream. Translated, it means the way around an obstacle.
