The tech boom in emerging nations explained

Smartphones remain a luxury for most, but nearly everyone logs on to social networks once they gain internet access.

These are among the findings from a new survey, external by the Pew Research Center which examined how developing countries are embracing technology.

Nearly every country uses mobile phones in a big way, but how they're used can vary from region to region.

While some developing nations still lack widespread internet access, Pew Research found that users consistently log on once connected.

The BBC's David Botti breaks down some of the numbers.
