Selena: The pop star killed by her fan club manager

On 31 March 1995, at the age of 23, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, a rising Latino superstar, was murdered by her fan club manager in a Corpus Christi motel in Texas.

Her death was met with widespread shock and disbelief by her fans. In 1993, Selena, as she was known, won a Grammy for her album Selena Live and was widely expected to break through into the US mainstream.

Chris Perez, her husband and band member, describes the day his wife was shot by Yolanda Saldivar who was suspected of stealing from her boss.

Ms Saldivar was convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence.

Witness is a World Service radio programme of the stories of our times told by the people who were there.
