Chelsea pensioners get room makeovers

Pretty much unchanged since Sir Christopher Wren designed them at the end of the 17th Century, the Long Wards - home to the Chelsea Pensioners - are getting a makeover.

The small wooden rooms - measuring 9 sq ft - are being modernised and getting bigger.

The distinctive wood panelling will remain, but residents will enjoy the luxury of en suite facilities and direct daylight. Take a tour of the old rooms - and see how they will look in future.
