Kara Walker's monumental sugar sculpture

Sculptors will use whatever material is available to create their art, be it stone, marble or even sand. But few have ever chosen to work with sugar.

That's what award-winning artist Kara Walker confected for her latest New York exhibition, A Subtlety, also known as The Marvellous Sugar Baby.

Housed in the soon-to-be demolished Domino Sugar Factory on the banks of the East River, between Brooklyn and Manhattan, it features sculptures that provoke discussion about the role of sugar in America's history.
